Charlie Wagner, aka (Senior) performing Dips with a Purple Band at the young age of 69! That’s not a misprint, I said 69 and doing dips!

In the past couple of days due to the snow storm I have heard how easy shoveling snow was from several people at the gym. It’s not everyday we get to really see what a difference we have made in our lives unless involved in some kind of sport or daily physical activity.
Post a comment if you have a story of how Crossfit has made a sport, activity, your line of work or anything in your life easier because of your fitness level.

Hi. It’s Mike N (the guy who stretches too much before he works out). For the past 10 years I have trained in Tae Kwon Do 4-5 times a week. Fighting is the most fun I can imagine and one of the best mental-physical workouts available, an entirely different stress on the body. At my lightest I was 170 and could back hook a Dixie cup off a 6 foot pole. The past few years I have put on 30lbs and have a mean round kick but couldn’t back hook kick if I tried. Oddly the years of training and malnourishment led to muscle mass loss and the stress on my joints led to all kinds of back and hip problems (one of the reasons I stretch so much now). I started with you guys in April. The workouts were tough, the ego was the hardest part. How could ten years of training leave me doing pull ups with bands?! I’m glad I pushed through. This past Saturday I had the luxury of sparring for the first time in a few weeks. One of my seniors is a national level athlete training for the Olympics. He and I have fought countless times over the years and without fail I would lose by an embarassing margin. Saturday was the first time we met in the ring in probably a year and a half. I scored three points on him, he still crushed me, but I scored, one a head shot! Nuts. Afterwards he said I never move like that before and he invited me to start training with him again. It was one of the best feelings I have had in months, and I attribute that to Crossfit. I can’t wait to get back into the ring. That’s just a litle something about me. Thanks for being there and training hard with me. (wrote this on an iPhone, which proved difficult to do, please forgive spelling and grammatical errors.)
I noticed how Crossfit has improved my strength when I went into the city last week with my sister and 2 year old niece. It was one of those brutality cold days, so my niece begged me to carry her. Needless to say I did, couldn’t say no to those big brown eyes(yes her aunt is a sucker). Anyhow, picking her up and carrying her through the city streets was much easier. My sister was amazed and kept saying if your tired I can take a turn holding her. I was even surprised at myself! So, Crossfit certainly has real world application.
awesome job mike! you’re rocking the cf wods!
for me, everything has become easier than a cf wod. i also look for challenges instead of avoiding them. when i run, i run up the hills instead of around them.
cf gave me confidence to go about my day, especially since i know that the hardest part of my day isnt until the wod.
Right-on Mike. Congrats.
And ego is always the worst opponent.
Good luck and happy holidays to all of you.
Woke up with a foot of global warming in my driveway Sunday. My snow removal remover was not working as he was still sleeping, thats my son Charlie jr. After doing the driveway took a little rest and then started the concreate stuff the town plows had blocked the driveway with. Finished that and proceeded to the street in front of the house which was very heavy. Did that and waited for the back to start hurting. Result no aches or pains. Cant credit global warming it was crossfit. p.s. Charlie jr. did some little spots that I missed.
As a runner, i know that cross training is very important. I just never knew what exactly i should be doing. I was very bored of going to the gym daily, doing the same things, and not seeing results that i wanted. After my first few months of CF, i knocked off almost 4 minutes off my race times. If it’s getting tough during a run i tell my self, “you just have to keep moving your legs, you could be at CF right now doing something 10x harder”, and i seem to be able to push through those difficult runs easier.
I have also seen a big difference when i’m traveling, (i don’t usually travel light) carrying my suit cases everywhere is so much easier!
Thanks for everything Chris! You’re the best.
Great job Mike, you should be proud!
Sometimes physical fitness allows me to be more productive than my peers at work. I work in and around some of the tallest buildings in NYC. While there are construction elevators (hoists) they are slow and take forever. While I’m not happy about it when it happens, I don’t hesitate to run up 57 stories in my work boots while lugging my safety gear and backpack behind me. Most of the time I get there faster than the people who wait for the hoist. When I’m in the field, physical fitness = efficiency. Thanks Chris!
I can now walk with only one crutch !
I used to be a nerd. Now I’m a nerd who can lift heavy things.
