Constantly varied, functional movements, performed with intensity are the code for fitness. The CrossFit Method will prepare you for life and sport better than any other training regime in existence today. If there were another system that worked better we would steal it and use it at our gym.
The days of body building (i.e. puffing yourself up with isolation movements and steroids to look like a prized monkey on the beach) are OVER. Body builders are terrible athletes and their lifestyle is not healthy. The body builders are on the same spectrum of health (and life) as the anorexic.
It does not take a dozen experiments and millions of dollars of research to know that years of LSD (long slow distance) endurance training does massive damage to the body. Have you ever met someone who looks 60 but is only 38 years old? I have (Imagine yourself at an "Old Timers Game" for Ironman Triathletes. It would be a gruesome sight.) Long, slow distance will turn any athlete into a slow, shuffling zombie-like creature who will get killed at any other sport.
Yoga - I love it, I still do it, it has been around for 5,000 years, and it cannot be fucked with. However, if you think you are getting fast, strong and powerful, (or any measurable cardiovascular / cardiorespiratory endurance) you have eaten a little too much tofu.
Finally, you will not see any Bosu / stability balls around our gym; they are a gimmick created by personal trainers and provide about the same stimulus as juggling. They may look cool, but will gimmicks allow you to skate any faster??? NO CHANCE!
Probably the least understood, but most important part of what we do is "The Sport of Fitness". "Fitness Experts" have been combining functional movements and intensity for decades, what is even more potent is creating a game out of the movements and allowing Human Beings to compete against one another in them. Creating this competitive atmosphere and measurable result drives us to a distinctly higher level of fitness (and community) that would not be attainable without a scoreboard.
